The University is a community of scholars committed to truth – its discovery and rediscovery. Through methods proper to each academic discipline – immersion in situations of privileged insight into humanity, empirical research, reflection on human experience, reflection on divine revelation, inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue - the community searches for truth in Bikol and in the world. All members of the academic community contribute to the culture of research in the university – faculty, through its commitment to discover and communicate truth; students, through their desire to learn and grow in truth; administration and staff, through their shared determination to support truth. Each segment contributes to university research impelled primarily from within by its eros for truth, leaning on the lights and energies of the other segments. For faculty, research is indispensable for teaching sustained in the standards of the global community of scholars and the demands of the local context of instruction. It is indispensable for the discovery of new truth, for the integration of academic disciplines with other academic disciplines, for the ongoing dialogue of academe with the world, for the confrontation by academe of truth with the truth of unjust and inhumane structures in the world, for the contribution by academe to the deeper humanization of the world. For students, research is indispensable for entrance into the learning of human civilization and for exercise in the academic methodologies of discovering truth; it is indispensable for developing habits conducive to personal insight and discovery of truth. For staff and administration, research is the vibrant source of university relevance to the world today.CORPLAN 2010 commits itself to a culture of research that will contribute to and benefit from research in the global academic community. Unto this end, research will be cultivated by different academic disciplines through the given strengths and limitations of the present academic community. Creative exercises of academic expression, listening, conversation, constructive criticism, informal and formal writing, shared skills in language and appropriate use of media will contribute to this culture of research.

Within the parameters of their own charters, research institutes like the ASSRC, INECAR, TRDC, etc, at the Ateneo de Naga University are to contribute to the accomplishment of the university research agenda. By the vigor and professionalism of their work, they are to contribute to the culture of research of the university. As mediating centers of university involvement with the world, the CCD and the CDFI, are to contribute rich fields of research to academe, even as it delivers the relevant fruits of academic research to the world.A University Research Council appointed by the President will catalyze, support, monitor, evaluate, and celebrate research in the university. It will also make recommendations on supplementary rewards for excellent research. The main reward for excellent research is the research itself. The university merit system will reward research done insofar as it is indispensable for teaching sustained in the standards of the global community of scholars and the demands of the local context of instruction. Professorial chairs will support research insofar as it furthers the research agenda of the university.Since a faculty that is overburdened by teaching cannot do quality research, by 2000-2001 no load beyond 24 units; by 2001-2002 no load beyond 21 units; by 2002-2003 no load beyond 18 units will be allowed. Insofar as possible and equitable, implementation of this policy shall not take place at the cost of income to faculty earned through overload. The ability to do research is a criterion for graduation from any of the colleges of the Ateneo de Naga University.
Specialized staff research towards the improvement of administration or administrative services is welcome.
