With the many attempts from previous administrations and with the motives from unscrupulous sectors and of the present administration to amend or revise our constitution, it is just timely to talk about the Con-Ass, especially that the Elections is fast approaching and to answer all the confusions and queries of the youth.
The University Social Involvement Council – Governance Cluster (USIC-GC) in collaboration with the Center for Local Governance (CLG), Liga ng mga Estudyante ng Agham Pampulitika (LEAP) and Legal Management Institute of Ateneo de Naga Students (LMIANS) and in coordination with the Ateneo de Naga Supreme Student Government (AdNU-SSG) held a Forum on Constituents' Assembly on August 27, 2009 at the Bro. Richie Fernando Conference Hall. The said forum was incorporated to the Alternative Class Program (ACP) of the University.
During the Training on Technology of Participation Level 1 on July 16-17, 2009 which was sponsored by the USIC-GC and CLG, FORUM ON CON-ASS was the activity identified by the participants during the demonstration of the Action Planning method. Thus, it was decided by the Governance Cluster of USIC to concretize the plan crafted during the said training.
The Speaker during the Forum on Con-Ass was Atty. Ma. Rose Sergio, Presidential Assistant for Research and Advocacy (PARA) of the University. Atty. Sergio presented the previous attempts of various administrations, the constitutional modes, the so-called “fourth mode” and the possible scenarios.
Atty. Sergio highlighted during the forum that “regardless of the move to amend or revise the constitution coming from “unscrupulous” sectors, the final say still rests in the hands of the sovereign Filipino people”. With this, the forum was a reminder to all Ateneans to continue to be vigilant and to protect our constitution and our democracy.
