26 August 2009 - The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung's (FES) in cooperation with the Ateneo de Naga University's Institute of Politics (ADNU-IP) launched an exhibit entitled For Freedom and Social Justice.
The exhibit features Germany's oldest political party, the Social Democratic Party (SPD), particularly its origins and transformation.
The event started at the Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J. Convention Center with IP Director Renne Gumba's Welcome Remarks which was followed, shortly after, by opening words from FES Philippine Office Resident Representative Mirko Herberg. Next in line was a discussion entitled Reflections on Realities and Potentials for Membership and Program-Based Political Parties, which was facilitated by Dr. Wolf Preuss of the SPD Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (retired) and Naga city Councilor John Bongat. Participants were given a chance to ask in the Open Forum that followed. After which, Marie Chris Cabreros, Project Coordinator went on with the Presentation of the Exhibit and invited everyone in the podium to proceed to the Fr. James O'Brien, S.J. library for the Formal Opening Of the Exhibit.
At the O'Brien library, Naga city Mayor Jesse Robredo, Mr. Herberg and Dr. Preuss led the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The participants then went back to the Arrupe Convention Center where a Media Conference and dinner capped the event.
The exhibit will run until 2 September 2009.
