The first day of December was memorable for our Ignatian Debaters as they were crowned as champions in the Third Raul S. Roco Cup.
The debate tournament was hosted by the Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel in cooperation with the Raul S. Roco Foundation and the City of Naga. The event was held last 28 Novermber 2009 at the USI grounds with the finals at the SM City mall in 1 December 2009.
The Ateneo de Naga University College Community sent ten debaters and three adjudicators. Two teams from AdNU (teams A and B) made it to the grand finals (all the teams were part of the top 16). The AdNU debate Team A composed of Monica Palomares (III AB DevCom) and Joachim Pilapil (IV BS Accountancy) took the top spot. Also in the finals was Team B composed of Yvete Sola (IV BMHP) and Arcci Relloso (II BMHP). Also awarded as Best Adjudicators were Grace Tud (2nd) and Nathaniel Magno (3rd).
The AdNU College Debate Team is currently managed by Mr. Rene Gumba (Moderator), Chair of the Institute of Politics, and Mr. Meliton Reyes (Co-Moderator), Faculty of Economics. The teams are also coached by Ateneo Alum Mr. Percival Tordialla.
